This quick and easy homemade gingerbread spice mix is the perfect addition to your holiday baking and beverages!
Unlike Pumpkin Spice mix, Gingerbread Spice mix is not readily available in stores here, at least not where I live. If you’re having trouble finding it as well then this recipe is for you!
An easy way to add a bit more spice and flavor to your holiday baking or beverages.
How to make Gingerbread Spice Mix
The recipe couldn’t be more simple — measure out your spices, mix, and you’re done.
You’re probably thinking to yourself — can’t I just use the pumpkin pie spice that I have in place of this? It’s pretty much the same ingredients. Well it IS mostly the same ingredients, but the ratios are different and it will yield a different flavor.
Pumpkin pie spice is heavy on cinnamon, whereas gingerbread spice has a balance of cinnamon, allspice, and ginger. It really does add a different and unique flavor.
This gingerbread spice mix is the perfect addition to any holiday baking that may be on your radar. From cakes and cookies to muffins and pancakes, the possibilities are endless.
And don’t forget to add it to your holiday beverages as well. Just sprinkle some on eggnog, coffee, or hot chocolate and you’re set.
It also makes a wonderful handmade Christmas or hostess gift. Pour some into a pretty mason jar and tie around a little candy cane or twine ribbon and you’re done!

This was excellent for a gingerbread candied nut recipe I made. Thank you.

Hi Michelle! So glad you liked it 🙂
Jessica says
Really good recipe but, this is the ginger at all. This is just pumpkin spice.
Olivia says
Hi Jessica! I’m glad you liked it 🙂 Pumpkin spice has similar ingredients but this recipe is heavier on the ginger and should have a strong ginger taste.

Hi Sue! You’re welcome!

I came across a recipe for gingerbread pecans that called for this spice. It wasn’t available at my grocer. I was going to substitute pumpkin pie spice, but a google search led me to this so I quickly made it. The pecans turned out amazing!! I’m so happy I found you. Way better, I’m certain. Thank you!
Olivia says
Hi Chrissy! I’m so glad you found my recipe to help! Now I know what I’m doing with my leftover pecans 🙂

OLIVIA!!! Your blog saves my baking day, yet again. Need to make a creme pat for some Christmas baby birthday profiteroles, but with a gingerbread twist, and this spice mix is gone be just what I need 🙂 Fingers crossed it’s a good idea. YAY for Liv for Cake!
Emily says
How would I use this in recipes? I clicked on your gingerbread cookies and the recipe has each spice measured out. What would the measurements be if I used this premade gingerbread spice? Sorry, I’m new to baking!!
Olivia says
Hi Emily! If a recipe has them measured out I would just go with that. I made this specifically for recipes that call for gingerbread spice (like my Polish Gingerbread Cookies) which isn’t always readily available in stores.
Stéphanie says
I use this type of blend to add to my waffle or pancake mix to provide my family with a variety of flavours
Olivia says
Sounds delicious! I’ll have to try that 🙂

Was looking for gingerbread coffee. I settled for making this spice mix (smells lovely!), and thru trial and error, mixed 1 TBS of gingerbread spice with a cup of plain ground coffee. Then I just use a few scoops in a Kcup basket for a single cup of brewed coffee. It’s so yummy as a latte!
Olivia says
Hi Corrina! So glad you like it, thanks for the tips! I’ll have to try it in my coffee tomorrow 🙂

I know this post is a year old 🙂 but wanted to let you know that I saw gingerbread spice at Bulk Barn since you mentioned you couldn’t find it in stores.
Olivia says
Thanks for the tip!! I’ve never been to Bulk Barn. Apparently we have one here but it’s kind of the middle of nowhere. Will have to make my way out there one day 🙂
Julia (@imagelicious) says
No Easily accessible Bulk Barn??? That’s sad… I think it means you have to move to Toronto. It’ll also help with your freezer issues as I’m willing to sacrifice my waist to eat your cakes…
Olivia says
Haha!! I am packing my bags! 😉
